The theory driving test is a mandatory test that has to be passed by all new drivers getting their first driver´s license, of course, if you are to renew your license this test may not be required. A theory test will assess your knowledge of traffic rules.
The first thing to take into account is that the type of theory test you will sit depends on the license type you are applying for, by now you should know that. It is also important to take driver´s Ed courses and get ready for the test. Once you have sorted this out schedule an appointment for a test at your nearest DMV office, pay the required test fee (cost vary from state to state) and fill out the right application for the test, you can get this at your DMV office. There will be an eyesight test before getting behind the wheel. Do not forget to take the required documentation to your exam, including proof of birth date.
First of all you will need to have a provisional Driver´s License, and then you can book your theory driving test online (your provisional driver´s license and credit/debit card details will be required). It is also possible to book the test over the phone or by post. Do not forget that an elementary requirement for a theory test is to be ready for it, so go through all the available material regarding Highway Code and any other DSA´s material available. Costs for theory tests go from £15 to £31 depending on the type of license you are applying for, in case you miss the test because of your own negligence the fee will not be refund so make sure to cancel (3 days before) the test online or move the appointment to a more suitable date. Finally, bring your Provisional Driver´s License together with your passport to the testing centre the day of the theory test.
In Australia it is required to go for the theory test in order to get the Learner´s Permit (not the driving license) and no need to say that the first requirement before going for the Learner´s Permit Theory Test is to be ready for it, make sure you have gone through all the appropriate training and reading. Learn all the road rules and particularly the safety rules (you can achieve this by reading a driver´s handbook). Book your driving theory test and remember that when applying for either a Learner´s Permit or a Driving License proof of identity will always be required, matter of fact it is three original documents that are required.
