The road test, also called driving test and practice drivers test, aims to assess your driving competency, based on different factors depending on the country/state where it is taken. Remember that, regardless of the place where you take the test, it is understood that you must show up at least 10 minutes before the appointed time, in case you cannot show up at the scheduled time you must cancel the test with at least a 24-hour notice (except in Australia where a 48-hour prior notice is required and the UK where a 3-day prior notice is required), and most importantly: DO NOT be nervous, if you have enough practice with a qualified instructor and followed the book the only thing that could keep you from getting your license is your own nervousness.
First of all: Do not forget to bring the required documentation to the test; otherwise the test will not take place. The road test basically assesses your maneuver abilities and driving skills under regular driving conditions in a regular driving environment as well as your knowledge of Traffic Laws so make sure you don´t break any driving rules. There will be many different challenges to face during the test such as parallel parking, intersection stops and turning round in narrow streets among others. A road test in the US takes between 20 and 30 minutes (duration may change depending on your State). Your examiner will always tell you when you are making mistakes so you don´t make them again and depending on the situation you may be required to try again. Do not worry, the test is not tricky, it simply evaluates your driving skills and knowledge; remember that the motorcycle road test and the regular driving test are not exactly the same. Be ready for two questions about safety.
Your driving license will be required by your examiner, sometimes he may ask for your photo ID, so do not forget to bring all the required documentation, otherwise the test will most likely be cancelled. A test in the UK lasts about 40 minutes and it covers different aspects of driving knowledge, knowledge of traffic rules and laws as well as driving skills that make a driver competent on a public road. The test includes two maneuver requests from your examiner.
Do not forget to bring all the required documentation (learner´s license, foreign license, etc.). Australia examiners are popular for being strict, so do not forget to cancel your appointment if necessary with at least 48 hours prior notice, to be there on time, and fulfill all requirements properly (car model for the test, etc.), keep in mind that there are no refunds in case cancellation was due to your own negligence. All directions will be given by the examiner before starting the test, beware Australia gives priority to Safe Driving so keep that in mind while taking the test. Your driving abilities and knowledge will be assessed through the test. Driving tests in Australia take from 35 to 80 minutes depending on the type of license you are applying for. |
